About DanceArtChicago
DanceArt was established in September 2000 by Maria S. Gebhard, a seasoned non-profit executive with hands-on experience in the fine arts, arts education, and community development. Leveraging her accomplished and decorated tenure, she founded, developed, and operates the organization which began with a vision – ensuring that all students could experience the world of dance, its history, discipline, craft, performance, and appreciation. The faculty consists of gifted performing artists who are sensitive to the needs of children and who approach each lesson with genuine love and dedication to the craft. DanceArt began as a studio, but transformed into a professional performing arts center, and ultimately, into a performance art company catering to at-risk youth through outreach and professional education components in nearly 20 Chicago neighborhoods. It acts as a multidisciplinary platform for artistic education, committed to supporting artists and building new audiences for the arts and future appreciation. The faculty teaches multiple weekly sessions in up to 60 locations through an innovative and discreetly integrated customized arts programming schedule. The target age group is students aged pre-K through high school (with a curriculum integrated to the 4th – 8th grade level), who have an opportunity to deepen their love of the arts. The DanceArt mission brings benefits to its participants while also building critical social skills and mutual respect through the disciplined protocol of dance – and through a deeper cognizance of mind and body health which builds self-esteem. DanceArt instills these core values and sets students up for success. Its vowed secondary mission is to promote professional artists by giving them high-paying and highly responsible teaching opportunities. Only the most gifted artists are chosen through a thorough vetting process to ensure they can provide substantive chance consistent with the DanceArt mission.
