About Dates-n-Mates Scotland
Dates-n-Mates is Scotland’s first friendship and dating organisation run by and for adults with a learning disability. Set up by C-Change in 2008. As of the 1st April 2023, Dates-n-Mates is an independent charity. Our work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved. Dates-n-Mates tackle social isolation and loneliness in the learning disability community. We facilitate social events where there are opportunities for meaningful connections, friendships, and relationships to develop. We are committed to enhancing our members’ confidence, independence, and wellbeing through our events, guidance and workshops. We provide an inclusive, fun, and accessible environment for our members while hosting events in 'mainstream' local venues. Our members and Directors influence the direction of the organisation and the opportunities we offer. Directors are paid colleagues in a leadership role, with lived experience of a learning disability. We currently have branches in Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire, Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.
