About David Krut Projects
From publishing a first editioned artwork in London in 1981, David Krut Projects has over time become an activity supporting the visual arts, literature and related creative activities based in Johannesburg. Committed to collaborations it has mentored staff, assisted artist to extend skills, published monographs on contemporary artists and contributed to the development of an educated arts community. Functions include a collaborative artists workshop, an art gallery, and a bookstore dedicated to knowledge on creative skills all with a focus on arts education. Collaborations with Johannesburg-based artist, William Kentridge began in the early 1990’s and was followed by the opening of a workshop there in 2002 to share etching and other printmaking skills, with now more than one hundred artists both local and from abroad. In New Yok, David Krut Projects was established in the early days of the Chelsea art district in 2001 and continues to promote the artist collaborations from the Johannesburg, and the work of artists from other countries in Africa.
