About Davis Sensory Institute

The 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞, LLC, provides food, beverage, and personal care companies, as well as medical institutions, with a unique partner for their sensory, consumer, and psychophysical research projects. Prior to the start of DSI, we conducted fundamental and applied research at the University of California, Davis, for over 25 years, resulting in a world-renowned sensory science laboratory. Our contributions touched all aspects of the field, from discrimination testing (with pioneering work on Thurstonian models and the tetrad method) to the optimization of descriptive analysis methodologies, to the improvement of preference testing investigations in natural and controlled home-used settings. Additionally, our leading in-house Data Science Team provides advanced data analysis services to our clients. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining DSI’s advanced analysis capabilities, which include: • Natural Language Processing - Correspondence Analysis for Comments - Supervised Sentence Classification by Topic • Penalty Analysis Plots • Relative Liking Graphs • Significance testing for TCATA to investigate the time-related profile of sensory attributes Our DS team routinely develops novel analytical methods to address the specific needs of our clients' projects.
