Since 1999, De Matos Ryan has completed a wide range of projects that have demonstrated our enthusiasm for architecture. For us it is a medium that incorporates all aspects of design from landscape to interiors. We create simple, imaginative and well detailed modern environments. We are known for specialising in contemporary design within historic and often culturally sensitive contexts as well explicitly new build works. Our projects to date have allowed us to consolidate and develop a confident and sustainable approach to architecture that seeks attention through its quality and clarity. The tactile and sensory experience of architecture is fundamental to us and allows us to cross freely between the disciplines usually associated between architecture and interiors, creating exciting, often dramatic places. We like to collaborate closely with our client and consultant team to develop a good working relationship that engenders an open and flexible approach to design and problem solving. We do not like to impose design solutions on our clients but rather realise their ambitions. We believe in the social and public role that architecture plays in motivating a community and we work hard to ensure that our buildings are both accessible and engaging for all potential users. Most importantly, we believe the design and building process from start to finish should be enjoyable for everyone. Our work has received numerous awards including RIBA Regional and Civic Trust awards. We have also been finalists in the RIBA Crown Conservation award, AJ First Building Award and runners-up in the Young Architect of the Year award. In 2008 we were included in the Architecture Foundation's 'Next Generation' shortlist.
