About Deerwood Country Club

Deerwood Country Club, established in 1960, is a private, member-owned club in Jacksonville, Florida. Known for its golf course designed by George Cobb, it is Jacksonville's first gated community and country club playing a significant role in the development of the city's Southside. The club has a rich history that includes hosting the Greater Jacksonville Open (now THE PLAYERS Championship) several times. Golf Course: The club's golf course was designed by George Cobb and opened in 1960, becoming a focal point of the community. The course has been updated and renovated, most recently in 2004, with Brian Silva leading the redesign. Hosting Professional Golf: The Deerwood golf course hosted the Greater Jacksonville Open several times between 1967 and 1975, which later became THE PLAYERS Championship. Community Growth: Deerwood was the first gated community in Jacksonville, and its development contributed to the growth of the Southside area.
