About Degenerate Art Ensemble
DAE is a Seattle gem, a well-known and respected export on the international art and music scene, and deeply informed by and influential on the Pacific Northwest’s cultural landscape. Characterized by strong artistic leadership, collaboration and co-composition, a brain trust of extraordinary talents from the art, music, dance, and circus worlds, and a shifting membership based on project-based temporary alliances, DAE can transform from a dance company to a punk/jazz quintet to a large orchestra, depending on the configuration that offers the best match for creative circumstance. DAE has explored sound, dance, stagecraft, film scoring, recording, sculpture and painting in more than 100 original performative works and nine commercial music recordings. New DAE works have been commissioned by On the Boards, Commissioning Music USA and the Aaron Copeland Fund. It has been awarded artist residencies at the New Museum, New York City, and The Watermill Center: A Laboratory for Performance.
