About DEIJB Lab

Harmful unconscious biases and exclusion in education can harm children's learning and development reinforcing divisions based on race, religion, gender, disability, sexuality, caste, etc. both locally and globally. Such negative effects have a lasting and detrimental effect on ALL children and the broader community, not just marginalised groups. The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging Laboratory (DEIJB Lab) was founded by Professor Puja Kapai in 2023 with preliminary funding support from the Global Pluralism Award which Prof. Kapai received in recognition of her work on advocating for inclusion and the rights of minority communities. The DEIJB Lab aims to (1) raise awareness about the widespread and detrimental effects of discrimination and exclusion in schools and (2) design context-specific solutions to promote systemic change to achieve equity, inclusion, justice and belonging for every child. What does the Lab do? - Support schools to develop and implement policies for inclusive learning environments. - Strengthen school teachers’ and leadership’s capacities to effectively deliver inclusive education. - Support teachers in developing culturally responsive curricula reflecting student diversity. - Establish community hubs under the Communities of Practice for Teaching and Learning to co-create inclusion toolkits to eradicate bias and strengthen justice learning pathways and belonging within the educational environment.
