About Del Paso Heights Growers' Alliance
As a community-based organization serving the Greater Sacramento region, our long-standing community focused work supports thriving ecosystems, sustainable neighborhoods and economies through policy, advocacy, and experiential education. Our pillars of work include food sovereignty (preservation of BIPOC cultural practices), healthy communities (environmental justice), and climate equity (clean air, water, and land). We serve vulnerable populations in the North Sacramento area to improve the social determinants of health (economic stability, social and community well-being, education, and neighborhood vitality). The DPHGA impact in the community includes expanded food sovereignty and healthy ecosystems through our flagship program Teaching Urban Farming, Forestry, and Aquaponics Program (DPH-TUFFA). We also support advocacy efforts to facilitate equitable neighborhood investments and developments, as well as increased access to healthy, affordable, and locally grown food by Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, and People of Color (BIIPOC) farmers, most of whom are women and girls. We currently operate and maintain urban greening efforts in disadvantaged communities in 6 educational community gardens and urban farms that provide access to fresh and locally grown produce and contribute to building a healthier community and 7 parks to provide urban forestry and land management education and training. We understand the need to support access to fresh, local, sustainably produced food and address inequities in the food system.
