About Delicious by Shereen

Delicious by Shereen’s mission is to empower women and provide financial stability, career development, and a positive family impact by addressing the critical need of assisting economically disadvantaged, under-served refugee communities in the Triad. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and have been active since 2016. In the course of our efforts, we have partnered with many local organizations including Wake Forest University, Winston Salem State University, The Winston Salem Foundation, The Women's Fund of Winston Salem, S.G. Atkins CDC, Forsyth Tech Community College's Small Business Center, a/perture cinema, River Run Film Festival, Artists Unite, SECCA, Interfaith WS as well as many regional churches and synagogues to cater events, hold bake sales, and conduct cooking classes. While providing valuable economic opportunities to under/unemployed women in the refugee community, Delicious by Shereen also aims to foster understanding between the local resident community and newly resettled refugees by providing a forum for shared purpose (love of food) and an opportunity for learning about one another and engaging in dialogue. Food is one of the best ways to build bridges and bring people together from different backgrounds. When refugees are resettled in the U.S., they are given some basic help upon arrival, but the challenges of adapting to a new country, a different language and culture, while dealing with a variety of emotional and physical issues can make that limited period of assistance go by far too quickly. Our mission is to help refugee women by allowing them to use their skills to achieve economic stability and integrate into their community. • Our business model is built upon social benefit for those in need. We're interested primarily in helping people help themselves by becoming productive members of society. It's been said before, but we want to give people a hand up instead of a handout.
