About Denver Justice Project
The Denver Justice Project is a 501c3 non-profit that works throughout the Denver Metro Area. Our mission is to radically transform the criminal legal system through intersectional advocacy that fosters safe and healthy communities. We address systemic issues through four pillars of action: Direct Action DJP’s direct action empowers community members to take active roles in shaping policies, holding leaders accountable, and advocating for equitable treatment. Our approach to direct action combines on-the-ground mobilization, strategic consulting, and community-driven campaigns to address issues like police violence, racial disparities in the criminal legal system, housing inequality, and economic instability. Community Advocacy DJP’s community advocacy is rooted in providing direct support to individuals and families impacted by or at risk of legal system involvement. Through a trauma-informed approach, we offer tiered support to help people navigate complex legal systems, address immediate needs, and reduce the personal toll of legal challenges. Collaborative Education Education is a foundational pillar of DJP’s work, helping community members build the knowledge and skills to navigate systemic barriers and protect their well-being. Through partnerships with leaders, community organizations, educational institutions, and advocacy groups, DJP offers resources to individuals affected by law enforcement interactions, substance use, housing instability, and economic challenges. Policy Advocacy DJP’s policy advocacy brings the voices and concerns of historically excluded communities directly to policymakers at both the state and municipal levels. We work to address systemic biases, enforce equitable legal practices, and build community oversight over public safety measures.
