Desmond Archibald Interiors (DAI) is an award-winning, full-spectrum interiors agency renowned for its envelope-pushing creative, artistic flair, and distinctive melding of classical and contemporary styles to create inspired residential and commercial spaces. Founded in 2008, DAI is best known for delivering high-end, artistic-driven interiors that carefully balance clients’ wants and needs with immaculate, detail-oriented design. This is as a result of the guiding influence of head designer, Desmond Archibald. A fine artist with a degree in painting and art history, Desmond brings a unique edge to his interiors – that of the artist’s touch. He sees colour and style differently to other decorators, drawing on his own art background and love for Baroque, Romanticism and Rococo style painting to deliver bespoke spaces. Desmond’s signature style is a mixing and reinterpreting of classical and contemporary styles in exciting new ways. He uses bold pattern and colour to create drama, combined with old-world charm and elegance. There is nothing obvious about his approach; it is experimental, surprising and unexpected. Desmond is joined by professional interior designer Benita de Kramer. With a penchant for technical details, Benita compiles plans and room layouts using 2-D and 3-D renderings. This shows clients the exact position of structural components, furniture and appliances to provide a glimpse into the future design. She also creates visual sensory boards with plans, designs, images and fabric samples, allowing clients to fully immerse themselves in the design that the team aims to bring to life. DAI is a Decorex Gold Award winner (2008 and 2009), and Desmond is a former Sanlam Design competition judge.
