About Destination Planning
Destination Planning Limited (DPL) specialises in strategic planning for the visitor industry with particular expertise in regional tourism and was integrally involved in establishing RTONZ, the trust representing New Zealand’s 29 regional tourism organisations (RTOs). DPL has project managed RTO operational benchmarking reviews and delivered regional and national projects in support of the 2010 and 2015 NZ Tourism Strategies. Individual projects include destination management plans, event strategies, visitor centre reviews, touring route / wayfinding plans, Maori (indigenous) tourism support, culinary tourism plans, convention bureau plans, local government tourism plans, tourism governance reviews and tourism funding models. This work often involves DPL developing tailored spreadsheet models, drawing on core tourism data sets or other existing research. DPL tends to sub-contract or partner with other agencies when new primary research is required. DPL clients include regional development agencies, regional tourism organisations, individual councils, commercial tourism operators, event companies, Iwi entities, advertising agencies, Local Government New Zealand, The Department of Conservation, Te Puni Kokiri, the NZ Ministry of Tourism, Tourism New Zealand, i-SITE NZ and the NZ Inbound Tour Operator’s Council (ITOC).
