Determined Ones Academy provides a haven and sustainable future for those with special needs, mild to severe learning disabilities, developmental delays, trauma, and similar circumstances by developing their abilities and teaching them life skills which enable them to get suitable jobs and live happier independent lives when they are adults. This solution orientated approach provides a long-term sustainable model for the affected and their families. In the UAE, people with special needs are now officially referred to as 'Determined ones' or 'People of determination' under the National policy for empowering those with special needs. Labelling an individual by their condition, diagnosis, or as ‘Special needs' sometimes knocks self confidence and does not accomplish the ultimate aim. We have a different approach which focuses on possibilities and not limitations, or what one ‘can do’ versus ‘can not.’ As an organization, we do not need to use a label or a diagnosis, however, we do an assessment to indicate one’s current circumstances and strengths. Meeting them where they are today. After the assessment, we provide a follow up consultation where we agree if the individual is selected to enrol in the Determined Ones Academy, or we suggest the best course of action based on the current situation. Although our mission is to provide people of determination with education and skill development to ensure their best possible future, our social impact vision stretches further, with an agenda to relieve other issues faced by humanity and the planet.
