About Diabetes Youth Services

Diabetes Youth Services (DYS) is an independent local nonprofit in Toledo, OH whose mission is to support families, educate communities, and encourage independence for children living with Type 1 diabetes and their families. We provide year-round family programs, support groups, free school support, and summer camps for ages 5-17. DYS was founded in 1984 as a portion of Mercy Health Partners and became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2001. We are funded by local grants and individual donors and provide services to 34 counties in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. DYS works hard to ensure all programs are accessible to everyone in our service area, and in our nearly 40-year history have never turned a family away for financial reasons for camp.
