About Digital Innocence Initiative

We provide technical knowledge, guidance, and resources on digital evidence to public defenders and individuals pursuing post-conviction claims of actual innocence. What We Do Our initiative tackles the root causes of wrongful convictions by strengthening the defense at the system level providing resources to public defenders. We raise awareness of the unacceptable number of wrongful convictions caused by digital evidence and promote the need for post-conviction review in all cases where digital evidence was a deciding factor. Created the first criteria for post-conviction review of cases involving digital evidence that can be used to uncover new evidence. Developed the first consolidated online Digital Evidence Toolbox specifically for public defenders, aimed at strengthening defenses and preventing wrongful convictions. We research new digital forensic tools, advanced technologies, AI, and methods to uncover new digital evidence in old cases, and share this knowledge with public defenders and the defense community.
