About Disability Connections

disAbility Connections is a Center For Independent Living which offers a number of services to help people with disabilities be as independent as they want and can be. No one lives at the center but instead access services to live as independently/interdependently in the community as possible. The services we offer include: Information & Referral about community resources, Community/Personal Advocacy to make changes to make the community more accessible and inclusive,Services that facilitate transition from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, provide assistance to those at risk of entering institutions, and facilitate transition of youth to postsecondary life. peer assistance/counseling and skill building. In contrast with other providers for persons with disabilities, disAbility Connections staff consists of over 51% of employees wit a disAbility as does its board. It comes from the Independent Living Philosophy of "Nothing About US without US'. People with disabilities provide services and drive mission! Our mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full inclusion of children and adults with disabilities into our communities of Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee Counties. Our vision is seeking to be a dynamic, well-funded and recognized organization empowering individuals by promoting independence and providing innovative services in response to our community’s needs. We were incorporated in 1925 by the Rotary Club of Jackson whom we work with to this day to help persons with disabilities in a number of ways.
