The Disabled Childrens Association works to help maximize the quality of life of disabled children worldwide through programs of caregiver education, social networking, animal therapy, and respite relief. The organization seeks to serve disabled children through: (1) Caregiver Education – Caring for disabled children often requires specialized knowledge and training. DCA seeks to create and deliver caregiver educational resources -- through seminars, specialized media, video webinars, and tools -- that teach caregivers how to provide best practices care to maximize the quality of life for disabled children. (2) Social Networking – Family caregivers often report feelings of isolation, anger, depression, and grief in caring for disabled children. Through a combination of people, processes, and technology, DCA strives to help facilitate the organization and scheduling of localized social support groups for caregiver networking, information sharing and social interaction – all for the ultimate benefit of disabled children; (3) Animal Therapy – Research proves that animals can improve the quality of life for children with certain disabilities. Through qualified partners nationwide, DCA promotes the responsible ownership and care of registered domestic animals to promote the emotional well being and happiness of disabled children and is developing a free service animal training, accreditation and registration process. (4) Respite Relief – Family caregivers often need a short break from full-time caregiving duties so that they can attend to personal matters and errands such as grocery shopping, banking, and doctor visits. DCA is developing a technology platform called DCAMatch to connect caregivers with verified and prescreened local respite relief workers and community volunteers with feedback ratings.
