About Disabled Ramblers
The Disabled Ramblers exists to help mobility limited people get back into the great outdoors. We organise and run over 30 rambles each year at beautiful and interesting locations across England and Wales. Members ramble on electric mobility scooters. Rambles are categorised according to terrain and difficulty: Cat 1 rambles are suitable for manual wheelchairs and all types of scooters. Often these rambles will be on former railway track-beds. Cat 2 rambles are on rougher terrain and need heavier pavement scooters or robust outdoor powerchairs. Cat 3 rambles are often on very rough and muddy terrain, are longer and steeper. These need the use of off-road scooters such as the Tramper. We have 7 Trampers which we hire out to new members before they buy their own. Walkers accompany us for company and to help with certain tasks such as opening gates. We bring and portable accessible toilet with us on our rambles for use at any time during a ramble. We sit on many committees at Government and National level to encourage the removal of man-made barriers such as steps, stiles, narrow bridges, and locked or too-small gates. All this is done through the help of volunteers; we have no paid staff.
