About Domaine de Boisbuchet
Domaine de Boisbuchet is a French country estate where Alexander von Vegesack, co-founder and director of the Vitra Design Museum from 1988 to 2011, established a non-profit center for design education. Since 20 years we are known for our workshops on design and related disciplines conducted by internationally acclaimed experts. We also organize exclusive design seminars as well as international competitions tailored for companies from various fileds. We did these for Faurecia, Amorim, Bosch, Hermès, Kvadrat, Vitra, Legrand, and Corning, amongst others. In the course of past years our workshops originated several innovative buildings, which now enrich the splendid setting of the Domaine – bamboo-structures by Simón Vélez, Markus Heinsdorff and Anna Heringer, a paper pavilion by Shigeru Ban, tensile cupolas by Jörg Schlaich and wood constructions by Brückner&Brückner. Each year this castle provides a unique setting for temporary exhibitions about design, architecture and related subjects. So far this programme comprises exhibitions about vernacular architecture, Japanese objects made of recycled aluminium, the dutch designer Maria Blaisse, 20th century's lamp design, Alexander von Vegesack's private design collection, Colombian architect Simón Vélez and Japanese Boro textiles from the 19th century. All of our initiatives in as well as outside of Boisbuchet are aiming at design education in a large sense. Students as well as professionals are coming here in order to know how internationally successful professionals structure their work and how they approach and tackle design problems. Our workshops as well as our architectural park and last not least our exhibitions provide manifold new insights and inspirations into the relevance of responsible design for our environment.
