About Donks

DONKS is a non-profit movement equity organization dedicated to expanding access to transformative movement practices for underserved communities throughout Denver and beyond. As the mission-driven arm of our movement equity collective (partnered with our for-profit entity Function), we focus on addressing the wellness divide that disproportionately impacts marginalized populations. Born from a critical need in the Denver Metro area, DONKS emerged in response to the significant barriers many youth—particularly from under-resourced and BIPOC communities—face in accessing mental health support and wellness resources. Our founders witnessed firsthand the wellness divide and its profound impact on youth lacking culturally responsive programs addressing their mental and emotional needs. Our trauma-informed, culturally responsive programs amplify the voices and lived experiences of marginalized populations, including at-risk youth, individuals with disabilities, BIPOC communities, and older adults. Through boxing, flag football, and other movement activities, we create authentic spaces where physical activity becomes a catalyst for personal transformation and collective healing. DONKS has built strong community partnerships with organizations like Convivir Colorado, Special Olympics, and the Colorado Wildlife Federation to develop educational, movement-based initiatives that empower youth while addressing mental health challenges. These collaborations have established trust within the communities we serve, demonstrating the power of culturally relevant programming to foster healing and growth. With our "gonzo-like" spirit, we challenge mainstream wellness norms that have historically excluded many communities. We prioritize accessibility, authenticity, and the transformative potential of movement in creating spaces where everyone is welcome to come as they are.
