Located in Donostia / San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain), DIPC started activity in 2000 and was born from a strategic alliance of both public institutions and private companies. Since 2008 DIPC is a ‘Basque Excellence Research Center’ (BERC) recognized by the Basque Government’s Department of Education. In 2019, DIPC was also recognized as a ‘Severo Ochoa’ Excellence Center by the Spanish Research Agency. In addition, DIPC holds the most powerful Supercomputing Center of the Basque Country and one among the most relevants in Spain, a fundamental tool used by more than 300 researchers from DIPC and the BERC network. Excellence in research, Excellence in communication DIPC's scientific activity is based on a highly dynamic international research community made up of local researchers and a global network of scientists. The research carried out in the center covers several scientific fields, including condensed matter physics, material science, atomic and molecular physics, photonics, quantum optics, quantum computation, polymer physics, chemical physics, cosmology, particle physics, theoretical chemistry, and photochemistry, among others. DIPC also develops a large numbers of events to foster exchange and creativity among scientists worldwide, that comprise several international conferences and training schools for young researchers, as well as a dynamic seminar and colloquia program.
