About Dor & Tan

Hello there, we are Dor & Tan, and we make a range of handcrafted ceramic home, and tableware in our sunny, sheltered St. Ives (Cornwall) based studio. The story of Dor & Tan begins with a desire to break away from the disposability of modern life, to create objects with a more personal connection. We want our items to become cherished memories, that favourite cup you always pick when boiling the kettle, the soup bowl you reach for after being caught in the rain. Every item has a unique soft character given by the hand of a maker. It takes time and training but creates something which cannot be replicated by moulds or machines. We believe that to be a great business you must, innovate, collaborate and take responsibility for your impact on the environment. Dor and Tan bring innovation to what we create by teaming up with local businesses such as Origin Coffee Roastery in Helston to design new products. With Origin, we have not only created new glazes and cup forms, but also a completely handcrafted ceramic coffee dripper which they tried and tested in their test kitchen to help us understand how to make the smoothest brews. Being based in such a rural area of Cornwall, we are conscious of conserving its beauty. We throw on either kick wheels or electric ones powered by green energy. Keep our waste to a minimum and making sure all our packaging is recyclable and reusable, and source materials as locally as we possibly can by going to our local clay pit in St. Agnes for most of our clay and minerals. West Cornwall is the core of our inspiration for colours, textures, shapes and forms. We love to walk into the Penwith wilderness and come back with a stack of hunted and gathered inspiration for our next projects.
