About Dorsey's Community Martial Arts Center
Sin Moo Hapkido was founded in the United States in 1984 by Ji, Han Jae (b. 1936). Ji, Han Jae was an early student of Choi, Young Sool, the founder of Hapkiyusool (a forerunner of Hapkido). Sin Moo Hapkido incorporates a philosophy of non-violence, self-improvement, adaptability, physical balance, emotional balance, and spirtual balance with basic Hapkido training. Additionally, the art formalizes a series of techniques, although students are expected to synthesize their own work at advanced levels. Finally, the use of energy flows are also emphasized in the sacred art. Students are taught holds, joint locks, holds, blocks, kicks, punches, pressure points, energy flow techniques, meditation techniques, ki breathing, and weapons handling.
