We’ll help you develop practical habits and skills that will serve your learning, and introduce you to mentors that will help you make the most of your Hillsdale experience. SERVICES The Writing Center: Visit the Writing Center in Academic Services for free writing tutorials Sundays through Thursdays, 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Our trained peer tutors will work with you at any stage of the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing—to develop and improve your skills as a writer. Appointments on Handshake are strongly recommended, although you’re welcome to drop-in if our tutors are available. Professor Assistance: With a 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio, and average class sizes of 15, Hillsdale students benefit from the personal attention of their professors, and office hours with them can be your first line of defense if you find yourself struggling in class. Departmental Tutoring and Research Assistance: Many academic departments provide peer tutors, and we can help you find these and other free sources to keep the semester running smoothly. Freshman Lecture Series: A series of lectures at the start of the new semester help acclimate new students to Hillsdale’s community of learners. Upperclassmen speak on strategies for time management, study skills, and formatting in the Chicago Manual of Style. Academic Counseling: With the help of the Deans and Associate Deans of Women and Men, free, personalized academic coaching in time management, test prep, study strategies, or managing specific learning disabilities is available for those who need accountability or extra help with identifying and achieving their academic goals.
