Curiosity and Meaning There's something that most will never see, that when we see it and tap into it will transform everything from relationships to business, from leadership to marketing, from social legacy to nations. This unseen mystery is The Anatomy of Meaning! For so long we have been fed the perception that being a leader means NOT letting people see who we really are. We've believed that doing so might make us seem vulnerable. However, the research is in: We now know that being armoured is entirely detrimental to effective leadership. Still, many leaders prance around like knights of old, armoured to the hilt and hidden behind their iron visors. Although we may admire their status, we can never really connect with them. The result is that it’s very difficult to be loyal to someone you can’t really see. The worst of it is that for the armoured leader life becomes ever increasingly lonely. Most of us, myself included, have been taught that to be a “good leader” we had to be strong, and unwaveringly confident. However, the latest management research shows that the old model of leadership based on title and facade can no longer survive in this the new global economy. We believe, and we are seeing, that it’s time for those of us who are out in front of our companies, organizations, associations and even in politics to inspire and motivate, with something far meatier than rah-rah verbiage. We must lead others by example! We must step into our role as a leader with transparency, honesty, and vulnerability and a deep understanding of what drives our people both individually and collectively!
