About Down Syndrome Association of Houston
The mission of the Down Syndrome Association of Houston is to provide lifelong education, support, and resources to individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the communities they live within. DSAH envisions a society where individuals with Down syndrome are valued, included, and empowered to fulfill their personal goals and aspirations. Programs: (1) Resource Center dedicated to providing needed information and referrals to family members, friends, caregivers, and the Greater Houston community. DSAH is the only organization in the Houston area that offers this kind of community resource to the Down syndrome community. (2) "Congratulations!” is a unique program for parents of newborns with Down syndrome to help provide positivity in this stressful time. The Congratulations program provides parents with a gift basket containing a resource folder, educational books, diapers, wipes, and baby shampoo, among other items. (3) Coffee & Conversations & PG-13 programs offer an opportunity for parents of Down syndrome to gather and share resources, support, and connect with other families with a loved one living with Down syndrome. Coffee & Conversation focuses on parents of children 5 and under, while the PG-13 program focuses on parents of children ages 6-13. (4) Community Groups are located online and throughout the Greater Houston area, offering information, resources, and support to loved ones living with Down syndrome. (5) Empowerment through Education Workshops are 1-2 hour group sessions that provide invaluable information by trained providers. (6) Education for Life (E4L) is an adult day program that provides opportunities to participate in activities and integrate into the community with like-minded Down syndrome participants from all ages and backgrounds. E4L also provides learning opportunities to engage the mind while teaching skillsets to last a lifetime, encourages self-advocacy, and articulating their needs.
