About Downtown

Downtown is proud to be part of a retail heritage that dates back to 1804. Founded by Mr. John Oldrid and Mr. Richard Hyde, the business began as a small retailer specialising in drapery, mercery, hosiery, haberdashery, and even funeral services. In 1831, John Oldrid took over full management of the business, leading it until 1905. Mr. Sydney Smith then managed the company from 1906 to 1915, at which point the Isaac family became the owners—a stewardship that continues to this day. Under the Isaac family's leadership, the business evolved and expanded. In 1981, Downtown Boston opened as one of the UK's first out-of-town retail stores, followed by Downtown Grantham in 1989, establishing the brand as a cornerstone of the regional retail landscape. Subsequent developments included a state-of-the-art Distribution Centre in 1997 and a major Garden Centre in 2000, further solidifying Downtown Grantham as a key destination for shoppers. Today, under the leadership of our Managing Director, Peter Isaac, Downtown continues to innovate and grow. With ambitious plans such as the upcoming Downtown Grantham Designer Outlet, we're excited to continue serving Lincolnshire and the surrounding region.
