About Dreams Take Flight National
Dreams Take Flight is a Canadian national 100% volunteer run, non-profit charity that provides the trip of a lifetime to mentally, physically, socially or emotionally challenged children to Walt Disney World. Our goal is to help them forget their troubles for one incredible day where they will experience wonder, friendship, and magic in the happiest place on earth. Dreams Take Flight took wing in 1989, when a group of Air Canada employees in Toronto organized a trip that took 70 special needs children on board a DC-9 aircraft to Walt Disney World in Florida. Today the charity has expanded to service eight cities across Canada; Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax (servicing the Atlantic region). Each chapter relies entirely on local and national sponsorships from generous businesses and organizations, our own fundraising efforts, and the assistance of hundreds of volunteers in order to make "Flight Day" a reality for amazing, deserving children. Air Canada donates an aircraft to each individual chapter to make this day possible. Donations, sponsorships, gifts-in-kind, and funds raised through our own efforts are used to pay for any other expenses incurred including, but not limited to: aircraft fuel, park admission for children and chaperones, spending money, clothing, and food. We are grateful to our wonderful sponsors and all contributors who donate in any way to this magnificent cause. By the end of this year, Dreams Take Flight will have changed the lives of more than 25,000 children. We welcome you to support us! We are always accepting donations (monetary or gift-in-kind), voluntary support for any of our events, or even simply spreading the word of our wonderful cause.
