About Durham Mountaineering
Durham Mountaineering is a heritage outdoor clothing brand that was started in the late 1970s and formally established in 1981. The company was set up by Joe Davison, a school teacher from Durham. He initially worked from home before renting a small room in the annex at the Durham Johnson School before moving into a factory unit in 1993. The name was thought up on the spot by Joe when he phoned up Gore in Livingston to purchase his first 10m role of material. Gore was just establishing themselves in the UK at the time so they wanted new customers. They asked Joe what the name of the company was for the invoice, which Joe hadn't thought about, but on the spur of the moment, he said Durham Mountaineering. The mission now is to resurrect the company and give it the brand recognition it deserves. #durhammountaineering #Durham #mountaineering
