About Durham Students' Union

Durham Students’ Union registered charity number 1145400, is a student-led organisation which provides a range of support, activities and services for 17,500 students in Durham University. We are a membership organisation, a charity, a service-provider and many other things rolled into one. We place students at the centre of everything we do and seek to be the unified student voice in the University, leading on issues such as academic representation and the provision of services and facilities for students. We undertake a range of activities which are fun and exciting, serious and challenging. We train students to play a bigger role in enhancing the academic curriculum and we advise and support them when they occasionally find themselves in difficulty. We host over 200 societies which do everything from dancing to teaching maths to children in deprived areas, and from playing quidditch to campaigning for a better world. We run one of the most successful student fundraising organisations in the UK and we provide training for groups such as the common rooms (like a mini students’ union) which play a valuable role in our students’ lives. ‘Our Commitment’ is to provide tailored learning to develop and empower our student community. Through delivering transferable skills to enhance personal growth and employability, as we believe learning should be inclusive to all!
