About Early Music Vancouver
Founded in 1970, Early Music Vancouver (EMV) has a long-standing international reputation for the presentation, production and study of classical and traditional repertoires played on period instruments and using historically informed performance practices. Historically informed performance is an approach to the performance of music which aims to be faithful to the approach, manner and style of the era in which a work was originally conceived. EMV now offers the second largest program of its type in North America, presenting and producing an average of 40-50 concerts per year featuring internationally-renowned local, regional and guest artists. It has a Main Season with several sub-series that runs through the Fall, Winter, and Spring as well as a growing annual summer festival that was re-branded as the Vancouver Bach Festival in 2016. It also has numerous Education and Outreach programmes. Of particular relevance to our growing role as a Canadian producer, in 2016-17, EMV took on the management and administration of Vancouver’s Pacific Baroque Orchestra (PBO) as a fully integrated division of its operations. In 2018-19, EMV created the Pacific Baroque Series (PBS) in Victoria to serve as a regional presentation platform for the PBO and our other large-scale EMV productions (www.pacbaroque.com). EMV’s Vision Statement: A world in which the power of music inspires all people to engage with and value the arts. EMV’s Mission: To engage, enrich, and educate through music. EMV’s Values: We promote historically informed performance practices We deliver inspirational experiences We foster collaborative relationships We strive for excellence in everything we do
