About Earth And Space Research
Earth and Space Research (ESR) is a Seattle-based nonprofit institute specializing in Earth science with a strong focus on physical oceanography and atmospheric sciences. Our work spans the globe, with research ranging from global ocean current and sea surface salinity mapping, to regional studies focused on the Antarctic cryosphere, polar meteorology, polar tide models, and Greenland process studies. Our scientists have expertise in satellite remote sensing, numerical modeling, data analysis, and fieldwork. ESR is also advancing its use of machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance environmental data analysis and subseasonal sea ice forecasts in remote data-sparse regions like the Arctic. In addition to cutting-edge research, we provide intensive mentorship opportunities for youth and early-career scientists who learn real-world skills by solving real-world problems. We also engage in frequent K–12 outreach, introducing students to oceanography, polar science, and climate through hands-on learning experiences.
