Earth Hour, organized by WWF, is a global grassroots movement uniting people to take action for the planet. Earth Hour famously started in 2007 as a lights out event in Sydney, Australia to raise awareness of the climate crisis. More than a decade-and-a-half later, Earth Hour has grown to engage millions of supporters in more than 190 countries and territories, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide to celebrate our one shared home while continuing to shine the spotlight on climate change and nature loss. In 2023, new life was breathed into Earth Hour in an effort to create the Biggest Hour for Earth, turning a single Earth Hour into thousands and millions of hours of action and awareness. How? By calling supporters across the globe to switch off their lights and Give an hour for Earth, spending 60 minutes doing something - anything - positive for our planet. Amidst our increasingly divided and polarized societies, the Biggest Hour for Earth is a precious moment of hope and unity, reminding the world that our one shared home needs our help and that we all can - and must - play a part in protecting it.
