About East and Southeast Asian Scotland

ESAS are Scotland's first Non-profit dedicated to mobilising democratic civil participation of East and Southeast Asian (ESA) people* in Scottish society whilst fighting inequalities, systemic barriers and racism faced by ESA communities in Scotland. ESAS are working on upcoming projects that are aimed at empowering and integrating ESA vulnerable communities into Scottish society as active citizens. We will be providing services, assistance, and hosting events such as English lessons, IT skills workshops and drop-in sessions, victim support and empowerment workshops, cultural events, signposting and hate crime reporting. *East and Southeast Asian (ESA) people identify with cultures and ethnicities coming from Brunei, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea (North & South), Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. These are vast and diverse communities with different experiences who face similar issues of discrimination, marginalisation and hate crimes in Scotland. Most of which are classified as “Asian - Other” in the Scottish census for data gathering. This erases many ethnic groups and silences issues faced by these communities. With the experience and expertise of established Southeast and East Asian community groups and organisations that we liaise with, we aim to provide essential community support to members of the wider range of communities reaching out to some of the most vulnerable and under-represented groups.
