About East Bay College Fund (merged with and now known as "Oakland Promise")
East Bay College Fund merged with Oakland Promise in mid-2019 and the integrated organization is known as "Oakland Promise". Please see profile of "Oakland Promise". (Original) EBCF was a community-based non-profit organization that provided college access services, substantial college scholarships, mentoring, on-going college counseling and life skills training to East Bay public school students from low income families and communities with historically low college attendance rates. East Bay College Fund was formed in 2002 by a committed group of East Bay citizens, educators, and community activists. Since its inception in 2003, East Bay College Fund awarded over 1,000 multi-year $16,000 four-year college scholarships with mentoring support to Oakland and Emeryville public high school students. Starting off awarding only seven scholarships, we have consistently increased the number of awards annually. Thanks to the growing support of our community and networks, we recently launched our Oakland Promise Award Scholarship in January of 2016! Continual and increased partnerships with local colleges, nonprofits, and scholarship providers will generate additional support to ensure students graduate ready for success in a career of their choice. East Bay College Fund, as the lead agency of the Oakland Promise, is proud of its partnerships with the Oakland Unified School District African American Male Achievement Initiative, UC Berkeley School/University Partnership, Summer Search, Juma Ventures, Upward Bound, College Track, Girls Inc and many other like-minded organizations. East Bay College Fund is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
