About East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine
East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is a dental school and clinic based out of Ledyard E. Ross Hall, 1851 MacGregor Downs Road, Greenville, NC 27834. Welcoming its first class of students in 2011, the SoDM trains North Carolinians who are service-minded and ready to improve oral health care for people across the state. The school's nationally recognized model of education and patient care includes eight commmunity service learning centers in rural North Carolina communities from the mountains to the coast. There, fourth-year students work alongside faculty and residents to provide care for patients from under-resourced counties and towns nearby. So far, the school has reached more than 75,000 patients from all 100 North Carolina counties. More than 90% of the school's graduates practice in-state. The mission of the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is to: Prepare leaders with outstanding clinical skills, an ethical bearing, sound judgment, and a passion to serve. Provide educational opportunities for academically qualified individuals from historically underrepresented groups, disadvantaged backgrounds, and underserved areas. Provide and enhance oral health services for underserved North Carolinians through implementation of community-oriented service learning and interprofessional collaborations. Foster a learning environment where collaboration, creativity, diversity and professionalism are embraced. Influence future clinical practice and dental education through research, innovation and discovery. The School of Dental Medicine embraces and builds upon the values of excellence, leadership, professionalism, service and diversity.
