EAS pays respect to the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations on whose unceded traditional territories our organization and our work is based. Our Vision: Transforming community through visual and performing arts. Our Mission is to: Inspire, educate and engage the community in visual arts Foster excellence and professionalism in the visual arts Provide opportunities and create programming for the public to connect with visual artists The Eastside Arts Society(EAS) hosts an annual visual arts festival the "Culture Crawl" in November that involves artists on Vancouver's Eastside opening their studio to the public. The event is focused on the area bounded by Columbia St, Great Northern Way, Victoria Drive, and the Port of vancouver and involves painters, jewellers, sculptors, furniture makers, weavers, potters, printmakers, photographers, glassblowers; from emerging artists to those internationally established. The Eastside Culture Crawl officially began in 1997 with 45 visual artists in 3 Strathcona area studio buildings and was attended by a few hundred people. Since that time the event has grown to include over 500+ artists, crafts people and designers attracting an audience of more than 45,000 attendees. The organization itself has evolved to represent the heart of the East Van creative community. EAS programs additional opportunities for visual artists including workshops and exhibits. For close to 15 years, EAS has produced Studio 101, an arts education program for inner-city schools. EAS is committed to supporting artists and ensuring that artists receive payment for their professional artistic contributions. EAS strives to meet CARFAC fee schedule payments for exhibits, workshops, and reproduction rights. In its 26th year, EAS is developing the Eastside Arts District.
