EdgeworthBox is an elastic procurement(TM) platform. It is to Big Procurement technology as public cloud computing like AWS is to the data center. Before AWS, large companies operated data centers. Massive real estate footprints, servers, software, and IT staff made for a high fixed expense, most of which was wildly unutilized as it was built for peak loads. Most companies, unable to afford this kind of fixed carry, made do with data closets or servers on-premise. AWS offered elastic computing: resources on demand with a variable expense model in which users paid only for what they used, when they used it. For the first time, companies could match compute demand with compute supply, dynamically. Fixed expenses became variable expenses. High expenses became low expenses. Elastic procurement(TM) does the same thing as elastic computing. Instead of Big Procurement technology or email and spreadsheets, companies can access a baseline of free, simple-to-use, data-driven procurement tools, data, and community for free. They then pay to execute a procurement event like an RFP or an RFQ. High fixed expenses become low variable expenses. Market intelligence is easier to obtain. Stakeholder collaboration around structured data is now feasible. This is what we have built at EdgeworthBox.
