President, Ernie Penner, grew up on a family farm in Blumenort, Manitoba. Always looking for something to do and always "planning", Ernie, at the age of 20, along with his father and brother Abe started a farm based logging operation called Penn-Co though which they sold timber and building materials to local farmers. The business expanded to include more products such as nails and roofing materials, and in 1960, the first Penner Building Centre was born. The first building centre consisted of 6 staff members and was located at the corner of highway #12 and highway #311 near Blumenort. After 20 years in this location, the building centre moved to expanded facilities at Clearspring Village Mall in Steinbach. In 2000, the building centre expanded to its present location at 200 Park Road West in Steinbach. E.G. Penner Building Centre serves customers from homeowners to professional contractors.
