A 37-year leasehold and hotel licence located in Adelaide’s Chinatown – undergoing a multimillion-dollar fit-out led by Sydney-based designer Tony Donnelly. City of Adelaide, ICD Property, and Mirvac have broken ground on its $400 million redevelopment and renovation expansion of the Central Market and Chinatown, which will create over 1,000 jobs during construction. The investment is said to be a catalytic investment for Adelaide’s CBD, creating a new social and commercial heart operating 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. To date, the existing arcade layout and design has under-utilised the site’s potential, a dated appearance, ageing infrastructure, and a lack of connection through the markets and Chinatown. The redevelopment will support and grow what people already love about Chinatown and the market district, securing its future as a world-class food, beverage, retail, and entertainment destination – attracting a projected 10 million visitors a year. When complete, the mix-use development will include a 20,000m2 commercial office tower together with a premium hotel offering 248 rooms, 231 luxury residences, 11,000m2 of retail space, a new first-floor supermarket tenancy, childcare, as well as at least 260 space public carpark. City of Adelaide has also committed to an east/west link connecting Victoria Square directly to the Adelaide Central Market, a new 24 hour/7 days a week north/south pedestrian laneway through the site connecting Grote and Gouger streets, as well as a seamless transition between the existing Adelaide Central Market and extended footprint. The hotel and 37-year leasehold comes with 2am trading and 36 gaming machine license. It is set to open its doors in July 2024.
