Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is a municipality with a Mayoral Executive System which allows for the exercise of executive authority through an Executive Mayor in whom the executive leadership of the municipality is vested and who is assisted by a Mayoral Committee. The municipality comprises 202 councillors, of both elected (101 ward representatives) and proportional (101 Councillors) representation. Each of the 101 ward councillors chairs a ward committee as part of the Ward Participatory System that brings participation down to community level.
