About El Patio Foods
Before Austin was the city many know it as today – long before SXSW and Austin City Limits, before Farrah Fawcett, Janis Joplin or Matthew McConaughey ever attended the University of Texas, before Whole Foods was even an idea, and even before I-35 was built – stood a small diner on the north end of The Drag. In 1954, the Joseph family began serving traditional Tex Mex dishes to Austin locals. And while over the last 70 years, high-rises and newer, ‘less local’ businesses have taken the place of former Austin establishments, El Patio has remained an Austin staple, still in its original location on The Drag. So much more than a restaurant, El Patio is a symbol for the community it serves, a place that honors its family history and celebrates generational relationships. It’s a compilation of stories that speak to the warm, inclusive atmosphere and those who’ve made it what it is today. Looking forward, the El Patio brand has the opportunity to breathe new life into a 70-year-old business, creating a bridge from the past to the present to the future always building upon its rich family legacy and deep Austin roots. The goal is to take what’s been handed down through generations, and create a brand name that goes beyond Austin (and eventually Texas) – to becoming a household food brand name nationwide.
