Elegant Steps Ltd wasn’t just a business it was a movement, at the heart of it was Jayne Bransby. Founded in 2003 after struggling to find stylish wedding shoes in a size 10, Elegant Steps became the UK’s largest independent wedding and event footwear retailer. From home-run startup to 4,000 sq ft warehouse and global e-commerce brand, Jayne built a platform that served thousands of women worldwide with over 900 styles and inclusive sizing. She pioneered early content-driven retail, developed bespoke copywriting systems to avoid duplicate content, and outranked giants like John Lewis and Debenhams on Google baffling competitors with her SEO strategy before most had caught on. Elegant Steps supplied footwear for TV, film, and red carpet events including The Crown (Seasons 1 & 2) and was trusted by celebrity stylists, though many names remained under NDA. Jayne also featured in national media, including LBC Business Radio, as a voice of retail insight. Beyond shoes, Jayne helped shape the future of retail education. She worked with Mary Portas and Rowland Gee (Moss Bros) on national skills programmes, shaped courses at Wirral Metropolitan College, led school enterprise days, and championed apprenticeships. She also helped influence government-backed responses to the High Street decline. Her locally driven ideas were taken to Parliament and later helped shape a nationwide support strategy for struggling independent businesses. Elegant Steps closed in 2017 after scaling faster than its internal systems could support but its legacy lives on in every empowered step, every inspired student, and every woman who finally found her fit.
