There are no finger-jointed, fiber-boarded, glued, laminated, pressed wood-like materials, or other imitation substances used here. We are the only California shutter manufacturer to use solid basswood in both painted and ready to stain shutters. Basswood is light and strong, with a tight, uniform grain and consistent color. These qualities make it versatile, durable, moisture resistant and attractive—undeniably the best domestic hardwood for the job. Lacquers and acrylics are the best paints when it comes to shutters, superior in durability, UV resistance and water resistance. Lacquers and acrylics provide a richer, smoother finish than water based paints, and they won't yellow or fade. In fact, lacquers and acrylics were the industry standard until 2001, when California shutters manufacturers switched to water based paints due to changes in environmental regulations. However, Elizabeth Shutters, unwilling to compromise quality, took a different approach, investing more than $500,000 in pollution control equipment—the only shutter company to make that investment. With the installation of that equipment, our paint emissions are reduced by 98.7 percent. This enables us to continue to provide our customers the very best paint finish while emitting less pollution than the use of lesser, water based paints would.
