About Emek Lone Soldiers
Emek Lone Soldiers Making Sure Our Lone Soldiers are Never Alone There are over 300 English speaking religious lone soldiers annually serving in various units of the Israel Defense Force. They are volunteers and most serve in combat units. They come from America, England, Canada, Australia and South Africa . They have no immediate family in Israel and no place to call home. Emek lone soldiers, situated in the German colony of Jerusalem ,was established to assist them before enlistment, during their military service and after completion of their duty. We are their home away from home. We provide a center, a community, a Shul and Beit Midrash for them. Pre Enlistment We are a part of the Tiferet Arazim pre military Academy, giving the shiurim and guidance during their 3 month orientation and training for the Israel Defense Force. During Military Service We visit the Chetz Battalion - religious paratroopers and the Tomer Battalion - religious combat soldiers in Givati each on a weekly basis at their training camp and in the operational area to give shiurim and provide support for the lone soldiers there . We were asked by the Schachar organization to assist them in this task. Post Military Service We have lone soldiers who have chosen to live in this area , have rented apartments and are part of our community, Shul and Beit Medrash. In this way we not only give them the support during their service but also assist them after the army in their studies and occupation. Rabbi Myers served as an army chaplain in the South African army. Rav Berzon served in the IDF and was a Rav giving shiurim there for 15 years. Rabbi Thaler studied in Mir Brachfeld. He taught at the Hebrew University Afikim program and attained distinction in the Israel Rabbinate qualifying examination. We are uniquely qualified to serve these soldiers based on our training and experience. In addition our Shul, community and Beit Medrash are excellent for the Anglo religious soldier.
