About Emmaus Mossley
Emmaus Mossley is a charity that supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, companionship, tailored support and work opportunities. We don’t just give people a bed for the night; our support is longer term. Working together, we give people stability, confidence, experience and life-changing opportunities. Within the Emmaus Mossley community and social enterprise, we harness everyone’s potential to help them discover options for a better future. Our community is home for up to 26 people at any given time, with each person supported to build their confidence, self-esteem, skills and work experience to achieve their goals. The Emmaus Mossley social enterprise is centred around our large Secondhand Superstore where we collect, process and sell a wide range of donated items. Our Secondhand Superstore generates the majority of funding that sustains our community and provides valuable work experience to the people we support. Reuse, recycling and upcycling is a big part of the Emmaus Mossley social enterprise. In addition to our Secondhand Superstore, we offer a collection and delivery service, and operate online charity stores. We also have our own on-site workshops where donated goods are repaired, refurbished, tested, upcycled and upholstered. Many people find that living in a stable environment with the opportunity to contribute to society has a really beneficial impact on their lives. Emmaus Mossley companions – the people we support – gain from regular social interaction and are also encouraged to get involved in solidarity projects, volunteering and initiatives in the wider community. Emmaus Mossley is an independent local charity that is governed by a board of trustees who all live, work or are invested in the improvement of Tameside, Oldham and its surrounding communities. Whilst our work is focused locally, we are also proud and active members of the Emmaus UK federation, Emmaus Europe and Emmaus International.
