About Empire College School of Law

Empire College School of Law is a community-based law school that has served the North Bay area for more than 50 years. On July 25, 2022, Empire College and Monterey College of Law announced that the two law schools have completed a transaction approved by the State Bar of California Committee of Bar Examiners to transition Empire from a stand-alone, for-profit private California accredited law school into an accredited nonprofit branch campus of MCL. The name of the Santa Rosa branch campus will retain its local identity under the name “Empire College of Law”, reflecting the region’s long-standing identity as California’s “Redwood Empire”. The branch campus will join Monterey College of Law, San Luis Obispo College of Law, and Kern County College of Law as the fourth member of MCL’s family of accredited non-profit law schools. Empire College enrolled its last entering class in Fall 2022, and Monterey began enrolling new law students in Spring 2023 for its new Empire branch campus.
