About EmpowerGirl

EmpowerGirl is a gender empowerment program for Australian schoolgirls that harnesses the power of positive female role models in the workplace. By sharing the stories of their own success, these exceptional women can show young girls a world of possibilities for their future. Empowering storytelling enriches girls’ lives as powerful role-models help to break down stereotypes, unconscious bias and other barriers that limit the career choices of girls. We believe gender-equality and diversity starts at the grassroots. We know from current research that 92% of Australian female leaders, cite lack of visible role models as an obstacle to their career progression. (Women’s Agenda, 2017 Ambition Report). We also know that young girls start making career choices early and that those future aspirations are often gendered, limited and constrained. (Invergowrie Foundation Stem Report. Hobbs et al, 2017). Same-sex role models who defy stereotypes help young girls turn limitations into possibilities. Our aim is to put a female face on every type of work, industry, and profession so that Australia’s future female leaders are inspired to dream big. We believe that when we change what girls see, we can change their world.
