About EmpowerHer Sport

The concept of empowerHer Sport has been borne from the incredible success of the Run Antarctica project, led by Dr Donna Urquhart - Associate Professor, Pain Scientist / Medical Researcher, Physiotherapist, multi - Australian Representative in ultra distance running, and now Guinness World Record holder following her incredible 1400km ultramarathon in Antarctica. The driving force for the Run Antarctica project came from the desire to make a difference to young female sportspersons, to help them reach their potential, believe in their dreams, have the coping skills to survive tough times, and above all, to change the alarming statistic that around 50% of young females have dropped out of sport by the age of 15. We are pioneering a holistic approach to sports participation and will address the key barriers for young females - the Physical, Emotional, Mental & Social barriers. THE EHS MISSION: Our mission is to provide education programs and build supportive communities to empower females to be involved in sport and adventure throughout life. WE EXIST to raise awareness about females’ experience of sport, to provide education on a holistic approach to sport and life, and to build supportive communities with our charity partners. WE BELIEVE that sport has the power to change lives, and that we must help young females overcome the barriers that contribute to the large drop out rates in adolescence. WE ASPIRE to transform the lives of young female athletes by empowering them to reach their full potential, believe in their dreams, and develop a holistic toolbox of coping skills to help them overcome barriers and thrive in tough times.
